Platelet Rich Blood

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is derived from the patient’s blood serum.

The patient’s blood is placed in a centrifuge where each part of the blood is separated. The platelet-rich plasma is isolated and used to inject into the patient’s scalp.

PRP is rich in growth factors having long been used for enhanced wound healing and joint restoration and has now been found to stimulate new hair growth. This therapy can be used in conjunction with the surgical hair restoration procedures or as a stand-alone for patients electing not to have surgery.

Several studies have shown an increase in hair density at four months, lasting up to a year.  PRP injections are generally performed twice a year.

Laser Therapy

The laser stimulates hair follicles on the scalp producing thicker hair shafts and a fuller appearance in three significant ways:

1. Photo-biomodulation and a stimulation effect that initiates protein synthesis and mobilization of calcium ions, within the hair follicle.

2. Enhancement of ATP production in the cells, mobilizing cellular stimulation within the dermal papilla.

3. Significant improvement of blood microcirculation, allowing greater nutrient acquisition byfollicularsite.

LLLT is more beneficial for male and female patients with thinning hair or diffuse hair loss (the most common hair loss seen in women), rather than for treating those with areas of the scalp that are completely bald. A Laser Cap is one of the most effective at home low-level laser treatments available.  Designed to fit snugly under a ball cap with a portable battery device, this innovative device allows you to undergo a treatment anywhere you want. During each 30-minute treatment session, low-level laser light energy stimulates your hair follicles to revive and thicken your thinning hair and is proven to be safe, convenient and effective to stop hair loss and restore hair volume.

Sunetics, a more powerful laser therapy approved by the FDA, can be administered at Sante’s facility under physician supervision. Each laser treatment is 20 minutes and a series of treatments is recommended. Available in smaller home versions are the ‘laser cap’, designed to fit snugly under a ball cap with a portable battery device. This innovative device allows you to undergo a treatment anywhere you want. During each 30-minute treatment session, low-level laser light energy stimulates your hair follicles to revive and thicken your thinning hair and is proven safe, convenient and effective to stop hair loss and restore hair volume.

How Does It Work?

Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is one of the most effective ways to treat the progression of hair loss today. LLLT has been found to arrest or stabilize hair loss in about 90% of patients, and with consistent use,  also has been found to stimulate hair regrowth. The best part is that LLLT can be used along with other hair loss treatments and procedures, making it an integral part of any combination therapy regiment for the medical management of hair loss.

Propecia

The drug finasteride (brand name Propecia) is a prescription medication for men only which reduces hair loss.

Propecia significantly reduces DHT (a substance in the body that can shrink the hair follicle until it no longer produces visible hair), by inhibiting the formation of DHT in your scalp. Propecia is the first and only FDA-approved pill proven to treat mild to moderate male pattern hair loss on the vertex (top of head) and the anterior mid-scalp area (middle front of head).

Taken daily, Propecia helpsreducefurther hair loss and regrow visible hair. Patients usually see results in three to 12 months.

Rogaine

The drug minoxidil (brand name Rogaine) was shown in the early 1980’s to stimulate new hair growth, and was eventually FDA-approved as a topical treatment for male pattern baldness, and diffuse and pattern baldness in women.

Minoxidil converts vellus hairs (which are short, fine body hair) to terminal hairs (fully developed regular body hair), and also increases the growth phase of hair follicles. Rogaine is proven to help slow or stop hereditary hair loss in four out of five people and for a minority ofpeopleit can even grow back lost hairs in the crown area. Rogaine is typically applied topically on the scalp twice a day. Rogaine is not effective in the frontal hairline.

Cosmetic Camouflage

Using cosmetic camouflage is a common way of hiding hair loss and is often used by persons who are just starting to thin, especially in the crown.

A number of over the counter products are now available that can make the hair look thicker. They come primarily in powders, sprays and creams such as Toppik and Dermatch.
