Sagging or Lax Skin
Aging, UV exposure, and gravity are the most common causes of skin sagging. With age, the body loses collagen and elastin, which are responsible for making skin firm and youthful. Muscles also deteriorate with age, leaving skin less taut, especially in the facial region. Loss of volume in our face (primarily fat), thinning skin, smoking, and weight loss also contribute to sagging skin.
As a result, skin can sag as the forces of gravity act to create droopiness, wrinkles and bands. This can be thought of as excess skin and is similar in concept to a dress that becomes too large as its owner loses weight.
With advances in technology, facial skin tightening procedures have become more and more popular in recent years because they provide a scalpel-free alternative to more invasive procedures for correcting skin laxity and mild to moderately loose skin on your face, neck, arms or abdomen.
Ultherapy, the only FDA approved treatment cleared to lift the deep structural support layers of the skin, employs the latest advancements in high intensity focused ultrasound technology. A noticeable lifting of sagging facial features and neck skin, as well as a reduction of the jowls, is achieved by:
- Tightening and lifting the underlying muscle facia in the face and neck,
- Stimulating collagen production to tighten the skin
The result? Tighter, better-fitting skin, even on the neck.
Our patients have found Ultherapy’s ultrasound technology to be more effective for tightening the skin than devices such as Thermage CPT and Titan.
Laser resurfacing treatments offer an alternative approach for tightening skin with the added benefit of treating sun damaged skin, inelasticity, brown spots and other pigment problems, large pores, and other skin tone and texture issues.
